Stained glass lamps – The first work by our duo Hermansson & Linares

Stained glass lamps with turned walnut base

This is the first work by our design and craft duo Hermansson & Linares! We’re both graduates from Escuela de Artes y Oficios Santo Domingo in metalwork and woodwork respectively and we met during a bronze sculpture casting course. Henry has turned the walnut wooden base and I’ve made the stained glass lamp, from a design we’ve created together after an inspiring visit to Alhambra in Spain.

I had been given this extraordinary piece of glass a long time ago and had made a thousand different designs until I finally understood I should leave it entirely as it is. So it became this music box. The music it’s playing is Memory from Cats.

Stained Glass Angel Wings

This slideshow requires JavaScript.

What is it that you like so much that you would want a stained glass design of it? A friend in Norway told me that she loves angel wings in all shapes and materials. Nothing is impossible in stained glass so these angel wings made of three different white glasses and silver-coloured and soldering came about. Send me a message telling me what your favourite thing is, and I sketch a free proposal of it for you in glass.

Tiffany Lamp with Magnolias

It happens that I make classical Tiffany lamps. It means a huge amount of work and I almost went crazy during this process, but seeing the result with the lamp in place in a happy client’s living room, it feels really worth the work. Please contact me for details if you’re interested in a Tiffany lamp.

Real Size Stained Glass Hummingbird

How small a stained glass work could one actually make? My answer would be 6,5 x 5 x 7 cm. That’s the size of this realistic sized hummingbird and the smallest thing I’ve ever made. It weights 20 g and can easily be sent oversea without breaking. Please, contact me if you’re interested in a humming bird or any bird of your choice made in stained glass.

The Star – Stained Glass for a Tarotist

This slideshow requires JavaScript.

What I like the most as a glass artist, is when people come with a picture, photograph or portrait and ask me to make a stained glass version of it. I then sketch a suggestion and the client makes comments and we develop the design in dialogue. Likewise, the price is set according to the complexity of the design and glass selection. A while ago Edwing asked me to make “The Star” in stained glass for a tarotist’s birthday.  I learned that this image is one of the most important cards in the Tarot and made my version of it.

Stained Glass: The Refugee Mother

This slideshow requires JavaScript.

In this figure, I see a Syrian mother with her child on their way across the Mediterranean and, at the same time, Mary with the newborn Jesus. In any case, is there really such a big difference?  The idea came to me while reflecting on how to make a more contemporary version of the Catholic madonna that is so often seen and asked for in stained glass work here in Latin America.

Stained glass: Swedish Birds

This slideshow requires JavaScript.

How can stained glass take a step out of the church windows and away from the classical Tiffany lamps? That is the question that guides my glass work, and the mixed media “Swedish birds” is one of my answers. The stained glass wagtail, great tit and blue tit, three birds that are easy to spot outside my childhood window in Sweden, contrast against a piece of untreated tree trunk from Colombia.

Stained Glass: Advent Star with light

This slideshow requires JavaScript.

The Advent tradition of putting shining stars or candelabra in all windows lights up the December darkness for many Swedes. There are no Advent stars to be found in Bogotá, though, so I decided to make my own. I used veined red and yellow glass and made it possible to open and close it, so that it can hold a small but strong 3W low energy lamp. Maybe it is Bogotá’s first Advent star!

Stained Glass: Lamp with Flower Projections

This slideshow requires JavaScript.

I wanted a lamp that’s simple but that makes an interesting projection of light in warm colours on the surrounding walls. I found my inspiration in a photo taken in Claude Monet’s garden in France. I used the same red glass for all the flower pieces but took advantage of the different nuances to cut pieces that would create shadows and a tridimensional effect. The lamp has three completely different sides that all project different flowers on the wall.
